Well, things are going superb here in MIDWOOD! You know what that means? This Sister didn't get transferred! Sister Hodgson and I will be here for 6 more
weeks and I couldn't be happier. I
really, really didn’t want to leave :)
Also, NO ONE IN OUR DISTRICT GOT TRANSFERRED! Missionary work can change so much depending
on who you serve around, and I have an amazing district. They all abide by the district
"rules" and so it is a party in the streets every day! Our rules are to 1. Be obedient 2.
Work hard 3. Develop charity 4. Have fun. Let me tell
you. We do have fun. I like to say that when you do the first three
rules number four comes pretty naturally :)
So, to start out, I was quite stressed early in the week-
and had a mental break down for the first time in some months. We have been fairly backed up with all of our
potentials and referrals that we have been getting because we have been talking
to far more people each week, we really are getting a lot of contact
information. We obtain information on an
average of two new contacts a day when we really talk to 20 people daily. Women seem to be easier to talk to, so the
elders give us contact info they receive and we visit them on top of the ones
that we get. At the beginning of the
week we were backed up with about 40 names of people to contact. We got some help to contact quite a few of
them, so we are at a manageable point.
We got a return appointment with a gal we are working with. She is a rock star! We have taught her twice in the past 2
weeks.
We also have another woman that we are
teaching. She had a great
tour at temple square and wants to learn more. We need to get a return appointment with her,
but she has already come to church two times and met, a high
councilman, but come to find out, they used to work together. So that is cool.
We are better at coordinating our efforts with the ward. Our bishop came to our missionary correlation
meeting on Monday and told us how we are going to report the members we are working
with, who is coming out teaching with us and some other things. It makes it so that we can be more
accountable, and so there is less of a disconnect between the ward and the
missionaries.
I was asked to speak at Zone Training Meeting and do a
workshop; but it got cancelled. So,
maybe next ZTM? I’m not sure. The topic is "Speaking in the Language of Faith” I found a cool talk called, The Tongue of Angels. I
think I will base it off that.
With Facebook I catch glimpses of things that are going on
at home, and it is amazing to see how fast life goes on without you. Really,
everyone is getting married and having children. It’s kind of interesting.
We had a special experience with one of our referrals. It was a referral from a Gladys Knight concert.
Gladys Knight shared her conversion story at the concert and gave out sample Cd's, but it was supposed to be delivered by missionaries in the respective
missions. We went to the address. The husband wasn’t too excited to see us but
we got to meet the wife. As soon the
husband left she invited us in. We found
out that she hadn’t requested the cd, but instead all of her cousins who are
members from Western Samoa sent it to her. We brought her a dvd of The Restoration and a
Book of Mormon. She really was excited
to see us, although she said because of her husband she can’t be Mormon. I think she is sad, she even admitted that
her testimony isn’t strong, but we can be friends and invite her to activities
;)
Oh, last week I almost got kissed by a Jewish man....
hahahaha. Something you have to know is
that Jewish men won’t shake women’s hands.
So when he stuck out his hand to shake it I was really confused. But I shook it; and after that he leaned in
to kiss my cheek, but stopped because I gave him a weird look, I’m sure...haha,
it concluded with him saying "...please...?", and me saying, “no thank you.” Haha, a first for everything I suppose.
There is really nothing else to report. I mean, we do a lot- but when I go to write
it down nothing changes from week to week ;) Haha
We had pad inspections this week, and we had the cleanest
pad between the Spanish and English Elders :) I had to fight pride on that one
;) Haha I am really particular about cleanliness... Haha
I do want to talk about what I have been learning-- it boils
down to the doctrine of Christ. But
really how accountability plays such a role in our life here on earth. We are going to be accountable for everything
we do and think in this life. I am
finding that when we report to people here on earth, that our experience long
term will be much better when we have to account our works when we meet God.
