Fan Club!
Welcome to a completed week 1 of transfer 4 here in Midwood
Brooklyn!
Let me just start by explaining that at the end of last transfer
we chose to name this transfer "Midwood Miracles!" And literally
there are so many, that there will be absolutely no way I can talk about them
all! I am even having a hard time remembering ALL of them since there were so
many!
Okay, let the miracles and positive things begin. Ready?
[In no particular order]
One of our investigators committed to be baptized in November!
:) She is AMAZING! She has trouble with
smoking and then in around about way it’s a blessing that she got bronchitis
and strep. We feel horrible she is
feeling bad, but this has helped her stop smoking thus far!
We have an amazing district! They are all great!! Elder CDV went home, and we have Elder Lee as
our new district leader! He is SO
organized and on top of things! Looking
forward to the transfer ahead! We have 2
new elders in our district to add to that, but instead of adding a
companionship to our district we have 2 trios. Elder Brodowski is from home, I’ve met him
before as a youth! So that was fun, and then
Elder Miller is awesome too! We have the hardest working district ha-ha! I love
it! Our district rules are: be obedient, work hard, be charitable, and have
fun. We love all of them and as a
district have found that rule number 4 is followed the easiest when rules 1, 2
and 3 are followed :)
Another investigator we have has been choosing to go to another
ward that isn’t her boundaries, but she came to Midwood on Sunday! :) It
was super exciting!
We have a zone goal of 9 baptisms that concludes this week-
though the goal may not be hit, we have some huge progression for the area! :)
So no one cares about the number!
Another woman that I have never met came to Sister Blosil’s mind
the other day- so she chose to listen and call her. She invited her to be
baptized and come to church! It was
an awesome reminder that if you listen to the spirit that blessing will
come. Because though she didn’t come to
church, she sent us a text this morning telling us how she is grateful for the
invitation and wants to be!!! What?! So awesome!
Okay, Friday- the Bushwick elders called us to let us know
that there is a woman who is ready for baptism who is in the wrong ward
boundaries! soooooooooo-- we had a lesson with her and the elders and her
friend (who is a member--- members are the key!) and then we taught her the
Sabbath Day Lesson and her interview is scheduled for Thursday! She is so ready- and the light of Christ is
BEAMING from her! She keeps all
commitments and even stopped drinking coffee despite the poor effects of
caffeine withdrawals! :) So cool! The creole elders also have a baptism this
week! Super cool!
Another one... we met this Muslim woman who stopped us on the
street and was talking to us about how we can get our eyebrows done at her
salon. So... I figured it was a great
finding activity and took down her info. Thennnnn I found out she was going to
'thread" my eyebrows not wax them. I
had no idea what that meant and asked Sister Blosil if we could just ask
someone in the salon we were passing. So-
I did. And then at the end of our conversation she said "are you from the
Church of Jesus Christ?" and we replied yes, and she said-- I am from
there too. We get a lot of people that
sometimes say and forget about the "of Latter-Day Saints". Then she said, “I served my mission in New Jersey!” And we
freaked! She’s not in our ward, but she
travels an hour to work over here! She
appeared to be a little bit less active so that was such an amazing find! So I have nice eyebrows and met an amazing RM!
:) Every Wednesday we work in Prospect Park-- check it
out on google maps. It’s
HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! There’s a lake in the
middle of it... anyway we do a lot of work over there each Wednesday as a
zone. The park didn’t have a lot for us
to do so they let us go to the zoo they have in the middle of the park for
free?! It was sooo great! We met great families and saw the cutest baby
animals!
Today is P-day Potluck that our district of TEN.... I still
can't get over how many missionaries are serving in our ward... is having! That
will be fun to get to know our new district better.
Another miracle that happened is that Elder Lee committed us to talk
to a certain number of people on the way home from District meeting. So we did, and the people we talked to were
RIGHT outside of the church... they didn’t speak a ton of English so we took
them to the church where the Spanish district was teaching English classes at
that moment, and then the elders told us to come to the English class because
there was a woman from France who didn’t speak much Spanish but wanted to learn
English better. She has pretty solid English
for living here 2 weeks- but we started talking to her, and then decided to go
out to lunch with her and a member of our ward that speaks French! It was so
cool! The lord keeps blessing us!
Sundays we usually dedicate to knowing members better. So yesterday we had spiritual thoughts with
members of our ward about 1 Nephi 3:7. I was just realizing it is a commandment
to listen to the spirit and the Lord will prepare a way for us to listen to the
promptings that we receive- despite how hard they really are. Sister Blosil
says a great quote. Those who work hard only receive more hard work, and those
who make hard decisions only receive more hard decisions. This is so true. I feel like the lord just keeps asking more
and more of me. So I’m grateful he
prepares a way for it to happen. :)
Sister Blosil and I, because of her dietary needs, have been
eating really healthy- and I don’t have a scale but between our diet and the
many mile we walk daily I’ve lost a lot of weight! :) 2 of my skirts don’t fit
anymore and so that’s cool! :) I have much more endurance to do the work that
is asked of me because of it.
We met 2 other less actives in a single train ride- that was
kind of cool how they panned out. One of them Sister Blosil said 'we should
talk to her' and ended up being baptized when she was 9 and hasn’t been back
since then. The other person heard our conversation and came
up to us and asked us how our missions are going. So that was cool! Ha-ha! We told him we would send the elders over for
him to feed. He got a kick out of that :)
There are a lot of security systems that are installed here that
were made in UT by a Mormon. So we like
to tell people about it if we see it in their yard, and one lady the other day
told us it makes so much sense he was Mormon ‘cuz he "was such a nice guy
and had a glow about him" neat to hear of people’s encounters with
members. They always seem to be such
vivid experiences in their life.
New iPhone??? Someone update me on the iPhone 5c posters I’m
seeing everywhere! I only miss a few
things from the world, and FB, iPhone, and family is it... and not particularly
in that order... well maybe ;) love you!

There are more miracles, I’m sure- but we are low on time. :) I
am thankful for Midwood- these people are changing my life. I hope I can help
them as well :)
